Courses
Essentials of Modern Photography
In this half year course, students will learn the fundamentals of the digital photography process and its role in modern society. Focus will be on how the camera operates, how to create stronger, more interesting images, lighting and an introduction to digital editing. Students will explore the Elements and Principles of art and design while investigating photography genres including landscapes, architecture, still life, portraiture, documentaries and photo journalism. Contemporary devices and applications will be utilized and students will be introduced to analog photography (film). A DSLR camera is helpful, but not necessary. This course requires a significant amount of shooting to be done outside of class, while class time is focused on instruction and editing. This course may not be repeated.
Advanced Photography Techniques
In this one semester course, students will focus on extending and refining their skills in Photography. The first half of the semester, traditional techniques will be emphasized, with the majority of time spent on analog (film) photography. Students will be developing and printing their own images in the darkroom, learning and applying advanced and creative techniques including enlarging, masking, double exposures and alternative developing methods. A 35mm film camera is useful but not necessary.
Second semester will focus on digital photography as a career and the options photographers have today to use their craft as a profession; including product photography, portrait photography and fashion photography. Basics of Photoshop will be covered as well practices of a professional photographer including creating an online portfolio and marketing your work. A DSLR camera is advantageous but not necessary.
